POLARIS: The Museum Mentor Network is an online professional development network open to museum professionals from across the sector at all stages of their career focused on mentoring and leadership development activities. POLARIS presents an array of offerings including a directory of colleagues offering/seeking mentoring and career support, self-study modules, online discussions, newsletters, and webinars. POLARIS members have opportunities to develop mentoring relationships, craft a leadership plan, and deepen skills. As a growing community of practice, POLARIS members explore in solidarity questions of how mentoring and leadership can support self-empowerment, DEAI, capacity-building, and lifelong learning.
The Museum Leadership Institute at Claremont Graduate University (MLI@CGU) provides executive education to enhance the leadership of museum professionals and strengthen institutional capabilities. MLI@CGU offerings have included transformative educational programs for mid-level and senior-level professionals, convenings, and collaborations with international partners. These programs support the museum community by helping current and future museum leaders navigate the most pressing challenges and opportunities in the field. Over 1,900 museum professionals from the United States and over 40 additional countries have attended these programs since 1979. This strong and diverse network of alumni continue to lead in museums of all sizes and types.
